    The source for the gcc toolchain for Nios(1) was done by Red Hat/Cygnus and was
    clearly available. I'm pretty certain that the source for the Nios II toolchain
    is also available. Since GCC is GPL they must provide the source upon request.

    Also AFAIK you *can* get the source for Nios too, but you will have to pay for
    it.
